On 23 July, this Port Authority APDL – Administração dos
Portos do Douro, Leixões e Viana do Castelo, presented its intervention project
- Douro's Inland Waterway 2020 - on board of "Douro
Cruiser" vessel.
Douro's Inland Waterway 2020 is a 74 million euros
project for a period of five years. The main objective is to transform
the Douro River in a safe waterway with good trading routes in order
to contribute for the European Transport Purposes for 2020. The first
phase concerning project studies is already approved, for a period of two
years, which means an investment of 4.7 million euros.
Late June, this Port Authority has assumed the management of
the Inland Waterway of Douro River, previously under the responsibility
of IMT - Instituto da Mobilidade e dos Transportes (Institute for
Mobility and Transports).
APDL has now the responsibility for the promotion,
development and maintenance of infrastructures and equipment in this waterway,
as well as its administration and coordination. A new consultative body,
the Council of Douro Navigability has been created for this purpose.
